Hard Times in El Barrio by Jose Feliciano

Underground Dance Favorites:
Few artists can perform to a level that is as good as, or better than, their studio recordings. Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, and Yo-Yo Ma come to mind. It’s time I add Jose Feliciano to that list. I recently played the album version of “Hard Times in El Barrio” at Music For Dancers and the song has since struck a chord with me. Elements of House Music and Techno can be heard in the repetitive drums and bass, not to mention the tempo. In its core, though, it combines Rock and Roll with Disco and bleeds with style. This video is great. This is no “Lil Snupe,” or “Mylie Cyrus.” This is classic Soul Train. This is classic Music For Dancers. Enjoy.
